‘A Family Gathering’ is a two-week exhibition presented by Platform in celebration of Asian Heritage Week.
Asian Heritage Week, led by the Asian Hustle Network, runs from 20–31 May. While it isn’t yet formally recognised nationwide, it remains an important moment to come together, honour histories and amplify voices across our communities.
This exhibition centres on gathering. Not as a theme the works need to follow, but as an experience. A moment where artists of Asian diaspora are brought into the same room, to sit alongside one another and be seen together.
Across painting, sculpture, textile, photography, new media and more, the show reflects the breadth of practices and perspectives across Asian Australian artists. Works are presented in a dense salon-style hang, creating a layered and immersive gallery environment.
Throughout the exhibition period, the gallery remains open to the public to offer a slower way to experience the works beyond the opening night energy. Additional workshops and community-led sessions will also take place across the week.
OPENING NIGHT
Saturday 23rd May | 4 - 10pm
Join us for the opening night of ‘A Family Gathering’. This exhibition celebrates Asian Heritage Week, bringing together 40 artists across painting, sculpture, textiles, photography, new media and more.
This is a multi-arts experience that moves between gallery and gathering. Inside, works sit within a dense salon-style hang, curated interactive stalls and our bar.
Outside, the courtyard opens up with DJs and performances.
Across the night you can expect:
• DJ sets by Cynetic and SH1Y1
• Live performances by Juniper Care and secondskin
• Curated stalls including I-Ching fortune telling with Zoe Yang, live portraits by Lilou Art and live poetry by waterclover
The exhibition continues as a public gallery experience between the 20th - 31st of May without the curated sounds, stalls and performances.
This is a smaller space than our usual exhibition shows. Capacity is limited to a fraction of what we normally hold.
