On the 16th of February, 2024, Platform Presents Ascendant: Our first event for 2024 with an all female and non-binary line up.
Typically, our annual ‘International Women's Day’ event has been a cornerstone of our commitment to celebrating the achievements and contributions of women and non-binary people in the arts. However, in our ongoing pursuit of inclusivity and recognizing the evolving landscape of gender identity, 'Ascendent' marks a departure from our usual International Women's Day celebration. IWD for us, has always been about intersectionality and equity and less about the sole celebration of cis-gender women. On this day we centre WOC, trans women, women of different abilities and all other marginalized folks who have worked tirelessly alongside cis-gender women for the rights they have today. This year, to amplify this core belief, our focus extends beyond a singular day of acknowledgment. We deliberately shift away from an exclusive IWD discourse to embrace a more inclusive space.
