Through Luruk-In, she shares culture, celebrates identity, and creates art that inspires community and connection.

Artist Statement

Gaanbona - Bright and Happy in Taungurung language of the Eastern Kulin Nation
Aimee McCartney, founder of Luruk-In, is a proud Taungurung, Wotjobaluk, Wemba Wemba, and Boon Wurrung woman whose work celebrates the joy and strength of culture. Her collection "Gaanbona" Bright and Happy reflects the spirit of light, colour, and connection to Country. Drawing from her upbringing surrounded by family and culture, Aimee channels memories of laughter, gatherings, and the vibrant rhythms of life into her art. The collection embraces bold colours and fluid patterns that echo the energy of dance, the weaving of stories, and the movement of Country itself. Each piece invites viewers to experience the warmth and optimism of Aboriginal culture while recognising the strength of heritage that continues to shine through generations. Through "Gaanbona" Bright and Happy, Aimee shares her perspective that art is more than a visual expression - it is a celebration of resilience, a connector of communities, and a reminder that joy is a powerful act of cultural continuation.
