Artist Statement
During Daniels residency in Barcelona late last year he began to develop pictorial language concerned with representation of complex figurative forms. These paintings explore ideas found in social media, continuous streams of visual information colliding with opinion, challenging our perceptions. Also, feeding on our own visual appetite, informing our ongoing algorithm.
The works themselves are constructs. In shuttered effect, flipping through the pages of a magazine or scrolling on a smartphone, penny arcade peep show. These paintings are an extension of his current body of work. The monumental forms echo classical sculpture, rising on a dais. Juxtaposing a visual narrative of contemporary socio-political themes with personal iconography, in the form of reoccurring motifs. Daniel has also continued to explore themes of sexuality, in a sense tracing the human condition.
