Artist Bio
Erika Rivera Iñiguez is a Mexican artist based in Naarm, Melbourne, Australia. Her images embody the body and its transformation. She explores spiritual narratives supported by elements such as nature, animals, and diverse creatures. Rivera's work is recognised for her peculiar way of capturing mystical moments and narratives that evoke a poetic tone contained in each piece. Through the exploration of textures and the blending of techniques such as oil, acrylic, impasto, and pastel, she creates a symbolic composition that captures emotional narratives by juxtaposing shapes and colours.
Artist Statement
Mutation by Erika Rivera Iñiguez is a compilation of artworks inspired by the concept of disidentification, to allow ourselves to just be. In an exploration of her self-practice, the Mexican artist invites the audience to say goodbye to the ideas and concepts of ourselves. Those masks that we have to fit in. Detach us from the characters we build throughout life and recognise our true self, claiming the power that exists in the magic transformation of us.
