It Comes In Waves (2017)

Jillianne Frances, a multidisciplinary artist based in Bacchus Marsh, Victoria, draws inspiration from her upbringing in the south eastern bayside suburbs of Melbourne.

Jillianne's creative journey encompasses a diverse range of mediums, from drawing and painting to embroidery and the captivating art of weaving. Weaving has become a central element of her creative process. Tactile methods like weaving and embroidery hold a special place in her heart, allowing a close physical connection to her art.

Back in the day Jillianne would enjoy fidgeting with loose threads knotting them together in odd shapes. When she began to work on her vision of these pieces she felt a great sense of nostalgia.

Inspired by the fluctuating nature of creativity, created in a free form style building up the web-like structure within the frame. Some areas tightly knotted others developing large holes giving us a peek of the pattern beyond. These macrame like pieces imagine the artist as an erratic spider haphazardly knotting many loose ends together, just as the Fates may attempt to bring the disparate threads of our lives together into a cohesive form.
