Artist Bio
Stone (they/them) is an Arrernte gem, based on Wurundjeri Country.
They work in acrylic, gouache and digital painting to portray bold nudes and fae figures running around ephemeral dreamscapes. These escapist windows use fairies as metaphors of Blak people's experiences living within the colony, and reflections of gender, Blak futurism, sexuality,y and living away from Country.
The graphic colours heighten the sense of escapism and invite audiences into an ethereal plane of queer utopia
Artist Statement
in the night
Hidden in the night, a shimmer of moonlight. The fae awake and prepare to gather - stopping for a moments rest. . In these particular windows, Stone has depicted these fairies, in a moment of stillness, with the moonlight highlighting their bodies, where calmness, melancholy and nostalgia set in.
Stone made these pieces reflecting on when one is irrare (homesick, longing for Country) and the need to escape arises - creating portals to travel to/ connect/ see Country, in this plane or another.
