Artist Bio
Zoe Pavlou is an artist/nurse living in Naarm. At present she is exploring the use of spray paint and textiles. Over the past two years she has participated in many group shows across the city and has held two solo shows. Her works often explore her vibrant inner world.
Zoe enjoys the art of the working class, everyday people's loves, desires and celebrations. It must be accessible, and it doesn't necessarily have to have a strong political message. It can bring softness or humour to our often harsh and sterile world.
Artist Statement
The three pieces that comprise Zoe Pavlou's collection 'Ballistic' originally come from two different shows and employ two different mediums. Their fervent link is that they convey the artist's personal contemplations both past and present.
The textile work, 'An Environment That Encourages Razzle Dazzle', presents the world Zoe created in her head to evade boredom as a teenager. The acrylic and spray-painted canvases 'Patiently, Quietly, Faithfully' and 'Yeeesss Lord' are studies of times more recent since becoming a parent and experiencing the trials and tribulations of adult life. These latter pieces delve into the artist's spirituality, and how it can be a bit rough around the edges.
The title 'Ballistic' was chosen to unite these creations as the artist sometimes feels that her head and heart aren't big enough to contain the flux of emotions across the lifespan from excitement, anticipation and angst to grief, exasperation and acquiescence.
