Artist Bio

Inge Flinte is an abstract artist who grew up in Aotearoa, New Zealand. Drawing from her diverse background as the daughter of immigrant parents and her experiences of living in five different countries, her work explores the concepts of home, displacement, and belonging. Inge's creative process involves observation of the spaces she inhabits, capturing marks, shadows, and textures. Primarily working on canvas, she combines pigments, acrylics, oil pastels, and natural dyeing techniques. Sustainability is central to her practice, incorporating environmentally sustainable methods like eco-printing, reclaiming acrylic from wastewater, and foraging pigments.

Artist Statement

Chasing Impermanence engages with shadows in fleeting moments as an attempt to hold what resists containment. Shadows are perpetually in flux - reshaped by the time of day, the shifting seasons, the movement of wind, or the passage of clouds. They function as drawings made by light: provisional, dissolving, and never fixed.

By isolating these ephemeral forms, the artist simultaneously documents and relinquishes them. Each image operates as a still point, yet its referent has already vanished. Chasing Impermanence is therefore less concerned with capturing shadows than with attending to their continual disappearance, and with locating beauty in what inevitably slips away.
