Artist Statement

Tangle
'Tangle' is Jay's distant perception of the world and their place in it. It explores how some things can feel so important and integral to your being, while being miniscule and impacting next to nothing in the grand scheme of things, and how to balance both of those as truths. Through a lens of cellular biology, the connection between all things all the way down to your neurons is explored. In Jay's culture as a First Nations transgender person, they are considered to be more closely intertwined with the land, spirituality and healing. Through these artworks Jay hopes to exemplify the tangle of everyone's place within the universe like dendrites, like roots, like relationships.
