Artist Statement
1-Koki Rains 2-Webok
These pieces (Koki Rains and Webok) are two parts of a growing body of visual meditations by Peta Duncan. This collection of stills is a visual ode to the enduring poetry of everyday life on Mer Island, while exploring the synchronicities between Meriam peoples and the land, sea and skies.
Through these distilled elemental frames, Peta’s work seeks to honour her community and her ancestors enduring knowledge and connection to Country. By capturing candid moments of island life as it unfolds. These moments and gestures act as quiet declarations of presence within the landscape, celebrating the connection to the land as both playful and reverent.
