ABBOTSFORD CONVENT
CELEBRATE INTERNATIONAL WOMXN'S DAY AND WOMXN HISTORY MONTH WITH US
YOU'RE INVITED TO OUR DINNER PARTY
1ST & 2ND MARCH 254
EVENT INFO:
For the first time in our five years of curating pop-up art exhibitions, we are thrilled to extend our event schedule to span across two days. It is so special to us that we get to extend this particular event across two days because it allows us to support a cause that is close to our hearts while taking us back to our roots—why we began five years ago.
Not only that, but we are proud to also partner with WIRE org for this event and dedicate this event to support their fundraising efforts. WIRE is a free statewide service in Victoria that offers information, support, and referrals to women and gender-diverse people. Run by and for women and non-binary individuals, WIRE addresses issues that affect them, helps them make informed choices, and advocates for gender equity and social justice.

EXHIBITION THEME:
Dinner parties have long held a profound resonance for female and non-binary folks. These gatherings have served as places of refuge, solace, and solidarity; embodying warmth, connection, and growth. Around the dinner table, boundaries between guests are blurred. It becomes a sanctuary for meaningful conversation, moments of joys, tears and the organic exchange of ideas that can ripple into greater change. These experiences transcend the physical act of eating—they nurture the soul as much as the body.
At the heart of dinner parties is the act of sharing - stories, wisdom, struggles and triumphs. Like art itself, dinner parties are a collaborative effort where each guest contributes their unique 'dish' to create a rich, meaningful experience. They reflect resilience and solidarity and offer a microcosm of how community can nurture both individuals and the collective.
As we near our annual celebration of International Womxn’s Day & Womxn’s History Month, we have chosen to explore the concept of ‘Dinner Parties.’ In reimagining the dinner party, it becomes more than just a shared meal—it’s a celebration of mutual support, vulnerability, and empowerment. It becomes a reclamation of space and voice, an acknowledgment of how, throughout history, these intimate settings have provided women and non-binary individuals with safe places to strategise, share wisdom, and honour their collective power. It’s a symbol of nurturing—of feeding and being fed, not just physically, but emotionally and intellectually.
This exhibition draws on that symbolism and invites female and non-binary artists to "set the table" with their creativity. Each artist’s work represents a dish at the table, contributing to a feast of perspectives and ideas. It’s an invitation to celebrate openness, honour the stories that connect us and embrace the vibrant, diverse community we’re building together—similar to the ethos of Platform Presents' own gatherings that amplify creative voices and foster exploration.
